Electrical Home Inspection Toronto

Our Toronto electrical home inspections check that your home meets Ontario Electrical Safety Code guidelines and that all visible components are approved for use in Ontario. We focus on the accessible parts of your system — including panels, outlets, switches, service equipment, and exposed wiring. We do not inspect concealed wiring inside walls or ceilings, but if we notice anything that could signal a deeper issue, we’ll point it out and guide you on what to do next.

We safely shut off power to inspect the electrical panel and check for any visible open wiring that may be incomplete or not compliant with ESA standards. This service focuses only on accessible areas and does not include concealed wiring behind walls or in attics.

This inspection ensures all cables, raceways, and outlet boxes are securely fastened and installed correctly. We confirm that outer cable jackets are properly removed, bonding connections are present, and joints or splices are completed. We also check for required protection plates and verify that all wiring is roughed-in according to Ontario’s Electrical Safety Code.

We inspect the visible components of your electrical service setup, including the panel board, meter base, bonding, grounding, and disconnect. This service is ideal for identifying potential code violations or safety concerns before or after service upgrades.

Faulty wiring and service negligence are two leading causes of home fires. But this doesn’t have to be your story. Our safety checks cover components of your electrical system, including making sure that all wiring, electrical materials, and devices are certified for safety and compliance.

As a qualified electrician for real estate inspection in Toronto, we’ll check for any incomplete or uninspected work. This is particularly necessary for older homes that may have outdated wiring and fuse panels. When buying a home, exercise due diligence and safety with an inspection.

Before signing off on any contracts, some insurance companies require you to prove that your home’s electrical system is up to code and has no outdated wiring or panels.

Before moving in, it’s important to have your home electrical system inspected to confirm that it has been set up properly, is safe, and equipped to handle the electrical demand of the home.

If you’ve made upgrades to your home, particularly in areas like the kitchen, bathroom, or basement (i.e. adding additional receptacles or junction boxes) your electrical system most likely will need to be upgraded to support the additional electrical elements of your home.

Adding to your home means expanding its square footage. So you’ll want to make sure that your electrical system can keep up with the demands of the additional space.

FAQs

Answers to the questions we hear most — no sparks, just straight talk

Yes — electrical inspections are legally required in Ontario for most electrical work. According to the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), any installation, repair, or alteration of electrical wiring or devices must be inspected by ESA unless it’s considered minor work that is exempt. Homeowners or licensed electrical contractors must file a notification of work before starting the job, and ESA will inspect the work to ensure it meets the Ontario Electrical Safety Code.

If you’re not sure whether your project requires an inspection, a licensed electrical contractor like SAY WATT Electric can guide you.

No, we are a licensed electrical contractor registered with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) in Ontario. We offer a range of electrical services, including preparing for and requesting ESA inspections.

There are legal, safety and financial consequences for not obtaining the necessary permits. You may be required to stop ongoing work, face fines that can range from $500-$50,000, and be required to reverse any of the work done. You may also have a hard time selling your property due to noncompliance, resulting in reduced resale value or the loss of buyer interest.

All electrical inspections reports are done by ESA. However, the requests for inspection are made by a licensed electrical contractor. Electricians are legally required to request inspections for any electrical work they do.

The safety considerations, complexity, and electrical demands are different for each type of building. Residential electrical systems are lower in complexity and are generally standard i.e. lights, outlets, HVAC, and panels. Commercial building electrical systems are greater in complexity due to larger equipment, higher voltage systems, emergency lighting, fire alarms, and other specialized equipment.

If we find unsafe or outdated wiring or components, we’ll provide a clear report. Any necessary repairs require a notification of work to ESA by a licensed contractor.
